Live editing preserves HTML and reaches empty widgets
The person editing receives the full HTML, with comments and markers; the visitor still receives the clean version. Widgets with no content become selectable.
The system cleans the HTML before delivering a page: it strips comments, markers and indentation. For the visitor, that is a gain. For the live editor, it was a loss: the markers that say where a widget starts and ends disappeared, and the editor could not rebuild the page on save.
What changed
The cleaning is turned off only when the editing bar is active. Being signed in is not enough: without the bar, the user gets the same page as the visitor.
On a measured page, the visitor received 85 KB with no comments; the editor received 115 KB, with 22 comments and the widget markers.
Empty widgets
A widget that returns no content, such as an index with no items, had no element on the page and could not be selected. It is now mapped on the container that wraps it, or on the layout root, and can be configured. On save, the editor's temporary attributes are removed.
