Dashboard: widgets on a 12-column grid or on a free-position board

The Dashboard got Modules and Widgets tabs, dedicated permissions for the widgets area, a layout per profile, saved layouts and two arrangement modes: the existing grid and a free-position board.

The version 3 Dashboard brings two things together: the modules a person uses and the widgets with metrics and shortcuts. They became tabs, and the widgets tab can come first, depending on the layout or the profile.

Two modes, one switch

  • Grid (default): a 12-column mesh, drag to reorder, each widget 2 to 12 columns wide, and a selector for how many widgets fit per row (1, 2, 3, 4 or 6).
  • Board: columns come from the available width, and each widget stays where it is dropped, gaps included. Whatever is in the way moves down, and no widget reloads while dragging.

The "Board mode" switch toggles between them and keeps the width proportions. The first request was to replace the grid; at the Chief Engineer's request, the board came alongside it.

Who sees and who arranges

Two new module operations: widgets-administrar (edits, saves layouts and publishes each profile's layout) and widgets-visualizar (sees the profile's layout, without controls). With neither, the widgets tab never reaches the browser, and the server refuses the matching actions.

Other changes

A full window over the whole panel, the options menu in a floating button, duplicate widget, a shortcut to edit the record, and links inside a widget opening on the outer page, only on click. Tailwind was pinned to version 4.3.3, and everything was rebuilt with it.

Status

Validated with tests and browser scripts with one user of each type. Acceptance pending.
